                                            Transforming
                                            Education
                                            in San Diego

In 2010, the San Diego County Office of Education formed the Transforming Education Group, a coalition of leaders from local business, community, and educational organizations to find creative, effective, and collaborative ways to greatly improve public education throughout San Diego County.

The primary result of their combined response to our students' critical needs is a landmark event to encourage hundreds of other leaders to join forces and effectively communicate, collaborate, and coordinate their combined ideas, talents, resources, and connections.  No other challenge we face today can compare to the need our nation has to improve the education of our youth and ensure its strength in tomorrow's global economy.  This need warrants our nation's best strategic effort, and our nation's best effort includes yours, too.

Too many who have great thoughts, ideas, and perspectives hold them back, perhaps thinking their input won't make a difference.  Well, this event is the opportunity where anyone can make a difference.  Please attend the event and add your voice to the mix.  It will change things for the better.

                                            “There is nothing so powerful
                                            as an idea
                                            whose time has come”

                                            Success!
First of all, we want to thank everyone who helped make the Re-Energize Education Event a true success.  From district superintendents, vice-presidents of banks, presidents of advocacy groups, travelling panelists, donated staff members' time, parents, students, and teachers to the serving staff, the wonderful Midway crew, our sponsors, and everyone who came to help improve public education, we are in awe of your contribution.  Please accept our deepest thanks, gratitude, and sincere appreciation for being a part of something so important to San Diego County schools.

Second, with 744 attendees, the event was a huge success, on numbers alone.  But, we know that numbers don't tell the whole story.  As the evening began people were meeting friends they hadn't seen in years, meeting new people they wanted to learn from, and exploring the showcase groups.  As it drew to a close and people shook hands, exchanged business cards and lingered in the parking lot it was clearly evident that we had started something that would carry over into more than just one evening on an old warship.  The future of education looks much brighter because of the event, but now the real work begins, and we are here to help.

                                            Change is Coming!
The first step was holding an event that bridged gaps of geography and communication. The next steps are much larger, far reaching, and fruitful.  Going forward we will be changing this website to create collaborative opportunities through database applications, facilitating the forming of task force groups focused on important issues and innovative measures, and we will make strides to centralize the information about what people are working on.  From all this, education is going to be improved.

Yes, changes are coming, and you can be a part of it.  To begin with, register here to be included in our emails.  As opportunities arise we will inform you and you can opt-in to any that fit your skills and passions.  Some of you may want to also sign up for the Educational Collaborators List where we will begin a database of willing professionals looking to join forces with others.

We knew this would be a long road, and we are willing to walk it, but not alone.  We would love to have you with us, so please take a LEAP forward and stay in touch to see what happens.
